Tasting notes of the Glenkinchie 20 years:
Appearance: Deep gold. Medium beading. Nose: Immediate and big. Little nose-prickle. Very creamy and sweet, lightly fruity with a dry spiciness. Bread and butter pudding cut with anise. Sugared almonds. Ripe comice pear and red apples. Dry spices, toasted nut. Brandy with dusty cocoa undertones. Later, linseed oil. Finally, floral vanilla (Turkish delight?) with a balancing lime tartness. Blossoms beautifully with water. Sweet and lush fruit compote. Preserved lemon, tangerine. Spicy-fruity notes more pronounced on long exposure to air.
Body: Medium. Rich and firm. Palate: Pleasant mouthfeel: drinks well straight. Full. Oily. Oak-driven spiciness. Rich, creamy toffee and spicy ginger notes give way to mixed fruit compote. Good depth and texture. With water the flavour is surprisingly sweet to start, with a pleasant, softly waxy mouthfeel (milk chocolate) and rolling waves of soft fruit and vanilla. Good balance: soft spirit carefully held by firm wood.
Finish: Short to medium. Warming, gently drying and spicy overall. Liquorice and, at last, brandy cask-wood.
